Non-stop leaks are all that we’ve been getting over the past few weeks, and they’ve all but confirmed that Apple will be hosting a huge event at the end of this month. This includes confirmation that the Russian M4 MacBook Pro leak was fully legitimate, along with other indicators pointing to exactly what we can expect at this event. Yes, Apple recently released the updated iPad Mini 7, which might make it seem like there won’t be an event. However, I believe this was done because Apple wants the entire event to focus on M4 Mac products—just like they did last year for their October 30th event.
Before diving into the four new Macs we should expect at this upcoming event, let’s go over all the latest leaks that have surfaced over the past few months.
It all started back in August when Mark Gurman revealed exclusive info on four new Mac models, all featuring M4 chips. He also mentioned that these new Macs were expected to launch in October. Then, in September, he got exclusive information about the upcoming M4 Mac mini, including details about its full redesign. Finally, on October 1st, Gurman revealed that Apple is targeting a November 1st launch for the new M4 Macs, which lines up perfectly for an October event.
Then we got the craziest leak of all—two Russian YouTubers managed to get their hands on the new M4 MacBook Pro and revealed everything. Most importantly, they showed off the “About This Mac” page, which confirmed that it’s a November 2024 model. Just the other day, Gurman confirmed that these leaked machines are the real deal, making an event in late October almost certain.
Now, some might say that Apple will simply do a press release update, as they often do for certain product launches. But I can personally guarantee you, this time it’s going to be an event. Let me explain why.
M4 Mac Mini
The first major product is the redesigned M4 Mac Mini. This new M4 Mac Mini is arguably the most interesting and exciting thing that will come out of this entire event. According to Mark Gurman, the redesign details are stunning—it’s going to be almost half the size, nearly as small as an Apple TV, which is incredibly tiny. He also mentioned some key features: it will have an internal power brick, Ethernet, HDMI, and five USB-C ports (two on the front and three on the back), with the back three supporting Thunderbolt.
Now, the main reason why I believe there must be an Apple event is because Apple always hosts events when they unveil new product redesigns, especially for something as significant as this. The Mac Mini hasn’t been redesigned in over 14 years, and such a massive change deserves to be shown and talked about, not just announced in a simple press release.
When it comes to performance, it’s going to be insane. The current Mac Mini comes with either the M2 or M2 Pro, so jumping all the way to the M4 and M4 Pro is going to be absolutely mind-blowing—especially since the Mac Mini is always priced competitively. This update is shaping up to be a game-changer, and without a doubt, it’s going to be one of the most exciting announcements from Apple.
M4 MacBook Pro
The second major product is the M4 MacBook Pro base model, and we’ve learned a lot about it thanks to leaks from Russia. This model will offer the biggest performance leap since the original M1 MacBook Pro. Now, before rushing to upgrade, keep in mind that your current Mac may just feel slow because it’s filled with junk, using up storage or memory.
Note: But there’s a solution. CleanMyMac just received its biggest redesign ever. It’s faster, smoother, easier to use, and removes up to 27% more junk. Just click the Scan button, and it’ll clean up your system.
Now, back to the base model 14-inch M4 MacBook Pro. Here’s what you should expect:
- First, the Russian leaks confirmed the addition of a third Thunderbolt port, which makes sense since the M4 chip now includes double the Thunderbolt controllers.
- Display support is getting better too, with the ability to run two external displays alongside the main display.
- In terms of design, not much has changed beyond the Space Black finish, but the big news is in the performance.
For the first time, this model will come with 16 GB of base RAM, which is going to be a big selling point. When it comes to performance, this is the biggest jump since the original M1 chip:
- 23% faster single-core performance
- 27% faster multi-core performance, thanks to the addition of two extra E-cores
- 17.4% faster graphics performance; even though Apple hasn’t added more cores, they’ve made impressive architectural improvements.
- The neural engine is also 57% faster than the M3, which adds a huge performance boost overall.
This is shaping up to be an incredibly powerful MacBook Pro, with multi-core performance nearly reaching the level of the M3 Pro chip, which is truly remarkable for a base model. This upgrade is definitely going to excite a lot of people.
M4 iMac
Major update number three is the M4 iMac, and this is probably going to be the smallest update out of the entire lineup because there are no design changes expected whatsoever. The big thing this year is going to be the M4 chip.
Now, this one might also be the one model that gets an 8-core CPU and 8-core GPU, but we are not sure if it’s going to be this one or the Mac Mini just yet. Another big deal is 16 GB of RAM, which is also going to be a big update for people who are worried about multitasking or potential performance.
But other than the chip, we’re not really expecting much, to be honest. We might get a new Magic Mouse and Magic Keyboard with a USB-C port, but other than that, we shouldn’t really expect anything else for this new iMac.
MacBook Pros : M4 Max chips
four major products, we have the 14 and 16-inch high-end MacBook Pros with the M4 Pro and M4 Max chips. These machines are likely not getting any physical or design differences at all—no display differences, nothing—but we are getting those new chips.
In terms of performance, both the M4 Pro and M4 Max will hit around 3900 or even close to 4000 in single-core performance in Geekbench 6. The M4 Pro will likely be 25% faster in multi-core performance. The M4 Max chip is going to have up to 18 cores, but it will only be around 15% faster in multi-core due to diminishing returns when many cores are used.
In terms of graphics, the M4 Pro will likely go up to 20 GPU cores and score over 100,000 points in Geekbench Metal’s Graphics test, while the M4 Max will score over 180,000, which is incredible.
As for general features and design, don’t expect display technology upgrades like OLED—that’s likely not coming until 2026 based on rumors. And while there were rumors of a thinner redesign, that’s also not expected until maybe next year or 2026.
So with all that said, those are the five major products we should be expecting at this Apple event.
